It’s been five years since the blockbuster trade that saw Matthew Stafford join the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff join the Lions.
However, Hollywood star Anthony Anderson, known for roles in Transformers and Scream 4 and a reported net worth of $25 million, didn’t hold back when discussing the Lions’ inability to capitalize on Stafford’s talents.
“You gave us Matthew Stafford? You guys could not do anything with him,” Anderson said, per Woodward Sports Network.
Anderson, a longtime Rams supporter, pointed to what happened immediately after Stafford arrived in Los Angeles as proof of his argument.
“You see what happens when he left your team, came to a great team, and won the Super Bowl,” Anderson added.
Stafford won a Super Bowl in his debut season with the Rams. Stars like edge rusher Aaron Donald, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and linebacker Von Miller anchored the defense. Meanwhile, Stafford had playmakers like Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr. as offensive weapons.
Selected first overall in the 2009 NFL Draft, Stafford quickly became one of the league’s most productive quarterbacks. During his twelve years with the Lions, Stafford surpassed 4,000 passing yards in seven consecutive seasons.
However, despite his individual brilliance, team achievements were far harder to come by. Detroit reached the playoffs just three times in those twelve years and failed to win in the postseason.
Much of the criticism surrounding those Lions teams was the lack of support provided to Stafford. However, it has been completely different for him with the Rams.
Stafford, since joining the Rams, has missed the postseason just once, a stark contrast to his time with the Lions. However, Stafford has already made history going into next season.
Stafford And The Rams Create History After Myles Garrett Trade
The 2025 season was arguably Stafford’s best ever season. He led the Rams to the NFC Championship Game but also won his first-ever MVP award. Stafford threw for 4,707 yards with a career-best 46 touchdowns with a pass completion rate of 65%.
They have become the first team in NFL history to roster both the reigning NFL MVP and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year at the same time. This has prompted expectations for the Rams to go sky high.
During the offseason, the Rams went big, acquiring reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in a trade.
The Rams had to part with two-time Pro-Bowl edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional 2029 third-round pick. However, this trade has helped create history in the NFL.
