WWE Superstar Seth Rollins is back at it with his hot takes in the NFL. And this time, he's calling out Detroit Lions fans for the way they handled David Montgomery's exit from the team.

“The disrespect to Monty (David Montgomery) has got to stop, man. It’s got to stop. All right. This is what happened in Chicago when he left.” 

Rollins is a huge Chicago Bears fan and shows all the love to his former running back. "He’s highly productive, highly reliable. Doesn’t put the ball on the ground. He’s a great player, a great teammate. This guy rules, dude. And the Monty disrespect has got to end.” 

Playing alongside Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery carried the ball 158 times and recorded 716 yards and had eight touchdowns in the 2025 season. However, rumors circulated in the off-season that Montgomery was unhappy with playing time. That's why when news broke, fans weren't too happy.

Starting in 2026, Montgomery will start fresh in Houston, Texas, under DeMeco Ryans. Meanwhile, the Lions have announced the signing of Isiah Pacheco from the Kansas City Chiefs, and he will replace Montgomery in the running back room with Pro Bowler Jahmyr Gibbs. However, Rollins believes that won't be enough.

“You are not going to replace this guy. These are difficult shoes to fill. I love Pacheco, and I love that vibe. But you can’t replace this man. He just does the dirty work. I love him.” 

And There's a Reason Seth Rollins is So Confident

The Lions, under Dan Campbell, boasted one of the league's most prolific backfields with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

“I mean Sonic and Knuckles, they are going to live forever,” Rollins added. Gibbs and Montgomery earned the nicknames Sonic and Knuckles because of their distinctive playing styles. 

People know Gibbs for his explosiveness and speed, similar to Sonic. Montgomery's power resembles Knuckles from the popular video game Sonic the Hedgehog. 

The duo had a memorable 2023 season. The running backs had a combined yardage of 1,960 yards. Montgomery had 1,015, and Gibbs had 915. Having two running backs each approach 1,000 rushing yards is a rare feat.

The pair also shared 23 touchdowns. Montgomery had 13, and Gibbs had 10. The trade officially ends one of the NFL's best running back partnerships.
