Success in the NFL often brings emotional moments. One of Caleb Williams' Chicago Bears teammates recently delivered that kind of reaction after landing a major contract extension that will now keep him with the franchise through 2027.

The Chicago Bears backup quarterback, Tyson Bagent, fought back tears as he shared about signing his two-year contract extension worth $10 million with Chicago. MLFootball shared a video on X on Bagent discussing what the opportunity meant to him and his family.

“My dad is my right-hand man," said Bagent during the interview. "He didn’t even have running water until he was in high school, so there's definitely a lot of things and people that I could certainly help with this gift up and blessed with little things like that.”

The emotions showed what going from an undrafted free agent to a trusted member of the Bears roster meant for Bagent. For Bagent, the contract allowed providing for those who helped him reach the NFL despite limited resources and struggles along the way.

Bagent became emotional while speaking about his father, Travis Bagent, who is a 17-time world champion arm wrestler, and the hard work his family had done growing up. He first joined the Bears after a college career at Shepherd University.

He quickly earned respect within the franchise because of his work ethic and leadership under pressure. He made four starts during his rookie year in 2023 and stepped in for additional appearances as a backup throughout 2024 and 2025.

In his 12 games, the quarterback has recorded three passing touchdowns for 917 yards. Since he arrived in Chicago, he has grown in importance in depth behind the QB Caleb Williams.

Tyson Bagent's recent contract extension with the Chicago Bears isn't just another backup QB deal.

The former UDFA signed a two-year extension worth $10 million, with incentives that could push the value to $16 million, securing his place behind Caleb Williams through 2027.

According to the Athletic's Kevin Fishbain, Bagent became the first QB since Jay Cutler to sign his deal in January 2014.

Chicago went more than a decade without extending a quarterback, highlighting how unusual Bagent's signing was.

The general manager, Ryan Poles, appreciated Bagent's work ethic on FOX's broadcast, as he believed there is no hardworking player like him on the Bears team.

It is a rare milestone that shows how highly Chicago values its QB2.
