Randy Moss’ successful battle against cancer continues to inspire people. Now, one of his former Minnesota Vikings teammates has opened up on what he saw the Hall of Fame wide receiver go through.

Moss had announced his stage 2 bile duct cancer diagnosis on December 13, 2024, while live on his Instagram. He soon completed treatment and returned to ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown on September 7, 2025. However, his old teammate and close friend, Hall of Famer Cris Carter, recently opened up on how it was for him to see his friend going through it.

“He’s a funny guy, and to see him struggle and not be able to communicate with him on a regular basis and everything, that was very very tough,” said Carter. “But to see him on the other side of it, see the way he’s enjoying himself, this transition to his second life and who he is as a human being and everything, I am very excited for him.”

Carter, who appeared on the NFL Network with ESPN’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport on July 16, also talked about how he and his old friends were able to meet up after a long time.

“You got to give Randy credit for it. Randy got us all together,” said Carter. “Him and Jake (Reed) both battling the last couple of years, and both of them, you know, very private people.”

The "Three Deep" wide receiver trio of Randy Moss, Cris Carter, and Jake Reed, who played for the Minnesota Vikings from 1998 to 2001, came together for the first time in a while to take part in Moss’ fishing show, Chasing 10 with Randy Moss.

While it's an emotional time for the Vikings fans, there came another piece of news to celebrate.

Randy Moss' legacy looms as Justin Jefferson builds his own

Justin Jefferson, who is currently tied for second with Moss for consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns, only behind Cris Carter, who has eight, has been named as a top 3 wide receiver in the league.

While the Vikings and Jefferson didn’t have a great last season, he was still ranked as one of the best wide receivers in the league in ESPN’s latest ranking. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, on July 15, released the results of a survey conducted among over 70 NFL executives, scouts, and coaches to rank the best players in each position. 

Jefferson, who has previously been ranked as the best wide receiver in ESPN’s previous surveys, has been ranked as the second-best wide receiver. Despite a poor season, Jefferson was still able to collect No.1 or No.2 votes on around 70% of the ballots. One AFC executive gave his reasoning for ranking Jefferson very high.

“I go by who I’d want on my team in a game or a season, and I still think he’s super talented,” said the executive. “He’s a proven commodity that can do everything you need and adapt to any defensive look.”

Jefferson was given a pass from his worst season, where he recorded 1,048 yards, due to poor quarterback play and due to him being double-teamed more than any other receiver in the league, with him having a double-team percentage of 53.4. However, with Kyler Murray joining the team, we could see Jefferson recording another season with over 1,500 yards.
