The Detroit Lions have a new rookie to watch, and he is already setting clear goals. First-round pick Blake Miller is focused on trust, respect, and doing his job right from day one.

The Lions recently uploaded a clip on their official YouTube channel of Miller getting interviewed by none other than his own mother! The OT shared his take on what he would see as a successful season.

“I'd say for me, a successful first season is earning the trust and respect of my teammates and coaches. Whatever role I'm called to be in, if I'm a guy that my teammates trust when I run out there.”

That mindset fits what Detroit wants from its rookies. The team picked Miller 17th overall and expects him to help protect quarterback Jared Goff right away. His focus is not on stats but on being reliable in key moments.

“They're not looking to me come critical situations,” the young rookie said. “They know I'm going to get my job done. I feel like I'll have been successful my first year,” concluded Miller.

Miller’s contract also shows the team’s belief in him. As per the Detroit Free Press, he signed a fully guaranteed four-year deal worth about $21.8 million, including a signing bonus of $12.3 million. That kind of deal brings pressure, but Miller looks ready for it.

Before joining the NFL, Miller built a strong record at Clemson. He started 54 straight games and logged 3,778 snaps, setting a school record for career snaps. He also became the first Clemson OT in the Common Draft era (since 1967) to go in the first round.

The Lions have a lot of expectations from Miller, and so does HC Dan Campbell.

Dan Campbell Backs Blake Miller Pick

The Lions coaching staff has shown strong support for Blake Miller. Campbell believes the young lineman has the tools to make an early impact on the offensive line.

“He just, man, he’s played a lot of football, he’s solid, he’s steady,” Campbell said in a conversation with Dan Miller. “He can do it all… he’s tough, and he’s got length, and he moves well.”

Campbell also shared his first call with Miller during the draft. The message was clear from the start as the team welcomed him into the group with confidence.

“We’re fired up, man. We love the tape… You’ve got to earn what you get, but your M.O. says you’ll do that. You’re going to fit right in here.”

The Lions see Miller as more than just a draft pick; they view him as a player who can compete early and grow into a key part of the line.

The team is still building, but this move adds strength to the offense. If Miller delivers on his words, he could play a big role in the team’s push to return to the playoffs in 2026.
