Detroit entered the offseason searching for players who would help towards their championship aspirations, and they might have gotten somebody who could be much more.
Detroit drafted offensive tackle Blake Miller with their 17th overall pick, who many consider to be a future cornerstone for the franchise. Miller signed a rookie contract with the Lions worth $22 million over 4 years.
And, with coach Hank Fraley, whose impact on the offensive line in Detroit is undeniable, expectations are high. During a recent episode of the Twentyman in the Huddle podcast, Miller expressed his excitement about working with Fraley.
“It’s been amazing, great teacher when it comes to schematics, like really helping me pick up everything very quickly,” the rookie said.
He further added, “When it comes to technique, he’s a technician. Everything needs to be perfect because when you go out there, you don’t want to be thinking about your technique.”
Standing at 6-foot-7 and 317lbs, Miller is a durable and alert tackle with good athletic ability, arm length, and proactive hands. He played 3,778 offensive snaps in 54 games, a Clemson record for most consecutive starts by a non-specialist.
A 40-yard-dash of 5.04 and a vertical of 32 inches shows just how athletic he is for a tackle.
Meanwhile, Fraley is well known for developing players like Penei Sewell, who has made four consecutive Pro Bowls from 2022 to 2025. He also made Detroit’s offensive line one of the best in the league.
With the help of Fraley, Miller could become a future star for the team.
Miller Is Already Adjusting Well To Detroit
Blake Miller has the fortune of having veteran players in the O-line room in Detroit. Fraley has been making it a point to have Miller connect with them, according to Miller himself.
“I’ve just been trying to get info from as many guys as humanly possible. I feel like everyone has something to offer,” said Miller on the Twentyman in the Huddle podcast. “Guys kind of emphasize things in their own games, so they are able to notice things in my game and help me with that.”
He also mentioned how it already feels like a family. “ I really appreciate how welcoming everyone has been and open to give me advice. It’s been great. It feels like a big family.”
With the release of veteran Taylor Decker this offseason, head coach Dan Campbell suggested Sewell move to left tackle to protect Goff’s blindside. And with Miller on the roster, they now have a right tackle with a lot of potential.
The Lions will be hoping that this revamped offensive line can go back to being one of the better units in the NFL.
Do you think the offensive line is going to be one of the better units or do you think we could see a repeat of the 2025 season? Let us know in the comments!
