The Detroit Lions added seven new players via free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.

This influx of talent gives General Manager Brad Holmes plenty of depth. But it also means making some very difficult roster decisions this summer.

Reporter Christian Booher of Sports Illustrated projected how the final 53-man roster might look.

Detroit’s Quarterback Strategy for the 2026 Season

The Detroit Lions already have Jared Goff and Teddy Bridgewater on the team for the QB role.

Goff has already proved his capability in the last season, and because their roster is full, they don’t have space for a third quarterback right now. Instead, they can keep UDFA Luke Altmyer on their practice squad to add depth to the roster.

Sione Vaki Prepares To Move Beyond Special Teams

Motor City could keep four running backs since Jacob Saylors was their primary returner last year. However, Sione Vaki is ready for more playing time and could take over those return duties.

While Jahmyr Gibbs and Isiah Pacheco lead the backfield as a powerful duo, Sione Vaki is set to move beyond just special teams into a much bigger role.

Lions WRs’ Depth Chart

While Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams lead the depth chart, Kendrick Law’s arrival makes second-year wideout Dominic Lovett replaceable.

Alongside Greg Dortch and Isaac TeSlaa, Law creates a versatile but crowded rotation heading into training camp.

Detroit Lions Search for New Starting Linebacker

The Lions' defense must fill the void left by Alex Anzalone. Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes remain starters, but a competition for the open spot begins.

Malcolm Rodriguez is the favorite due to his experience, but veterans Demone Clark and Trevor Nowaske are also competing. Jimmy Rolder provides extra depth for later.

Lions Face a Big Void After Kalif Raymond’s Departure

The Lions’ special teams unit remains mostly the same, as the team hasn't added or cut any players this offseason. But Motor City faces a change after Kalif Raymond's departure.

Raymond was the primary return man, so the Lions need to find a new player to handle his punt and kickoff duties.

Detroit has plenty of potential on the 2026 roster with returning starters and draft talent, but the lineup is still a work in progress. Training camp battles and upcoming roster decisions will ultimately decide the final 53 players.
