A top OL prospect shared his thoughts on the possibility of playing alongside Penei Sewell and the Detroit Lions. What he said offered a glimpse into how he views Detroit’s offensive line.

On the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano spoke about the possibility of playing alongside Penei Sewell, expressing interest in joining the Detroit Lions.

When asked about comparisons to Penei Sewell, Spencer Fano said, “That’s exactly who I would like to play like. Any comps to him (Penei Sewell) is pretty cool.”

He also reflected on an earlier connection, adding, “I was able to get a little training session with him when I was a freshman… that was really cool.”

Fano joined the Utah Utes football team in 2023 as a starter, appearing in 37 games with 36 starts at both left and right tackle. Fano earned Freshman All-American honors in his first season.

Later, he became a unanimous All-American, winning the Outland Trophy and Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year, while also securing multiple First-Team All-Big 12 selections.

What Spencer Fano Brings to the Detroit Lions Offensive Line

Spencer Fano's movement and control are compatible with a modern offensive line. He finishes blocks with effort, mirrors edge rushers, and maintains balance during pass sets.

"Fano excels in the run game with his combination of athleticism and movement skills and still has room to build his frame up to handle bigger, bull-rushing edges in the NFL," Lions reporter Tim Twentyman wrote in February.

He is a physical, assignment-sound lineman who can move in space, which is what Dan Campbell wants for the Detroit Lions. If necessary, he can move inside or pair with Penei Sewell. "I'm fine playing wherever," Fano stated.
