“They better get some damn help”: Analyst delivers blunt verdict on Lions’ defensive struggles

The Detroit Lions’ defensive struggles have raised fresh concerns after their 41-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2.

Speaking on ESPN's UnSportsmanLike, NFL analyst Chris Canty argued that the defense needed more than just another standout performance from Aidan Hutchinson.

Canty pointed to Detroit’s early-season numbers while questioning whether Hutchinson could solve the defensive unit’s broader issues:

"I don't know who it is, but they better get some damn help. Cuz Aiden Hutchinson ain't gonna be the fix in terms of this defense finding a way to be able to get stops."

The veteran analyst also highlighted how often opponents have found the end zone against the Lions:

“They've had 23 drives on them this season. They've allowed scores on 11 of them, So, basically every other time the opposing team gets the ball, they score.”

Canty’s comments came after the Bills repeatedly exposed the Lions' defense.

That pattern now raises questions about how Detroit can prevent similar breakdowns in the weeks ahead.

Detroit Lions fall short after slow start against Buffalo Bills

The Detroit Lions fell behind early and never fully recovered against Buffalo. The Bills scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and built a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Jared Goff eventually found a rhythm and finished with 327 passing yards and four touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown also added 9 catches for 142 yards and 2 scores.

Josh Allen led the Bills with 5 total touchdowns, while Buffalo finished with 446 total yards. Detroit mounted a late push, but the deficit proved too large.
