Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold's legal case had an unexpected comparison from NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe. During a recent episode of the Nightcap podcast, Sharpe compared Arnold's situation to a similar incident involving O.J. Simpson.

“That was a very similar situation rescue. So O.J. did the same thing out in Vegas. Remember, allegedly… he was told that they had memorabilia of his and they were trying to sell it,” Sharpe said on Saturday.  “And he ran in there, and what happened? They ran, they told on him.”

The case Sharpe referred to involved charges Simpson faced in Las Vegas in 2017. According to ABC News, Simpson believed that some of his sports memorabilia was being sold by sellers.

On the Nightcap podcast, Shannon talked about how Simpson had gone to a hotel room with several men posing as buyers to retrieve those items. Prosecutors later said the meeting has escalated into an armed robbery and kidnapping.

In 2008, Simpson was found guilty on multiple charges related to the incident, including armed robbery and kidnapping. He subsequently served time in prison.

Simpson was eventually released in October 2017 after serving nine years of his 33-year sentence.

According to the Associated Press, Arnold faces kidnapping, armed robbery, and conspiracy charges after a reported theft of property worth more than $250,000. Investigators later said the alleged victims were not linked to that theft.

“Man, I hate this young man [Arnold] put himself in this situation. If this is true, I really do,” Sharpe continued.

Sharpe expressed disappointment and sympathy that the young cornerback was facing such serious allegations. Arnold's case is moving through the legal system, while the facts will continue to be examined in court.

As the legal process continues, Arnold has taken another step that could shape what comes next.

Harvey Steinberg joins Arnold’s legal team before the key court hearing

Arnold's legal team has added a well-known defense attorney while preparing for the next stage of his case. The step has been taken before a hearing where prosecutors are expected to argue that he should remain in custody while the case moves forward.

“Court filings confirm Arnold has retained noted Denver attorney Harvey Steinberg to represent him in this case,” Adam Schefter posted via X on Sunday.

According to Pro Football Talk, Arnold hired Harvey Steinberg ahead of Monday's detention hearing in Florida. The Denver attorney has represented several NFL figures in high-profile legal matters over the years.

Before taking Arnold's case, he represented Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper when he faced legal allegations.

He has worked with many other well-known football names as well, including John Elway, Jerry Jeudy, Brandon Marshall, Elvis Dumervil, and Kellen Winslow II. 

His experience could play an important role as Arnold's attorneys argue their position before the court. More than 10 years ago, he explained his technique to CBS.

“The system has to be held accountable. And if the system works, justice occurs. If it’s broken, that’s when there are problems,”  Steinberg had said.

The hearing could affect whether Arnold is released while the case continues. It could also have football-related effects, depending on how the legal process unfolds for him.
