The NFL community is mourning the loss of former offensive lineman Jordan Devey, whose death has shocked many. According to statements shared by his family, Devey passed away after taking his own life.

The former NFL guard died on Tuesday, July 21, at the age of 38. Devey had retired in 2021 after playing one game for the Buffalo Bills in 2020. Devey had passed away just a few days before his 15th wedding anniversary with his wife, Linsey.

“Today would have been our 15th anniversary,” wrote Linsey on July 25. “We brought 4 beautiful children into this world that have your eyes, freckles, and compassion. You were our hero, and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, “we’ll talk soon.”❤️ ”

In the post on Linsey’s personal Instagram account, along with the caption, was also a link to a GoFundMe page to help support Devey’s family during this tragedy.

Devey’s mother, Leslie, also talked to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City. They believe that Devey suffered from CTE but that they won’t be able to test for the neurodegenerative disease. The reason for their not being able to test it is based on the way Devey passed away.

Devey had played 44 career games with 21 career starts for five teams in seven seasons. He had taken part in seven games for the New England Patriots when they won the Super Bowl in 2014. He played his most games in a season, the very next year with the San Francisco 49ers, with 15 games and nine starts.

Devey is survived by his parents, his wife, Linsey, and four children.

A huge legacy left behind by Jordan Devey

Growing up in American Fork, Utah, instead of playing football, Devey was actually a member of his school's marching band. However, he would soon pursue a career in football during his collegiate years with Snow College and then the University of Memphis.

Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2013 with the Baltimore Ravens. However, he was later released and won the Super Bowl in 2014 after signing with the New England Patriots. He then played for a year for the San Francisco 49ers, where he had his most games in a season with 15.

He then played three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and a season with the Oakland Raiders before his final season with the Buffalo Bills.

After his retirement in August 2021, he moved to Eagle, Idaho. He was a cherished member of the community and earned a reputation as a role model and a mentor, according to the KTVB television network in Boise, Idaho.

He also spent time coaching at Eagle High School and was their offensive coordinator before his passing. Devey was also a registered organ donor.
