Jared Goff has rebuilt his career and reputation since joining the Detroit Lions. However, comparing his career to NFL legend Tom Brady has not been received well by NFL fans.

Both Brady and Goff are great passers and have accomplished quite a bit in their respective careers. However, many consider Brady the best player of all time.

“Brady’s first 10 years the league wasn’t a passing league like it is today,” commented a fan. “(crying emoji) can we stop this nonsense.”

When a comparison of Brady and Goff’s stats of their first 10 years in the league was posted on X by a Detroit fan, NFL fans were not impressed.

Goff had better stats in passing yards, touchdowns, and passer rating. However, the comparison missed out on a major metric that showcases the level of success - Super Bowl rings.

Brady, in his first three years, was able to win three Super Bowls, while Goff has only ever made the Super Bowl game once, back in 2018 with the Rams.

Moreover, Brady was the epitome of consistency during his active years. He played 22 seasons in the NFL and recorded 89,214 passing yards, scored 649 touchdowns, and has a passer rating of 97.2 while also winning the most Super Bowls of any player in NFL history with seven.

While Goff is one of the best passers in the league and has also recorded five seasons with over 4,500 passing yards, NFL enthusiasts believe he still has a long way to go if he is to be compared to the former NFL legend.

Fans did not hold back on their opinion on the comparison, flooding the post's comments section with varying takes.

Fans react to Goff and Brady comparison

While Goff had better stats in most metrics than Brady through their first ten years, fans were quick to react and dismiss the comparison. One fan called out the post for comparing the two QBs purely based on stats and not actual wins.

“Different eras. Different set of rules on defense. Plus Brady won when it mattered, where Goff hasn’t,” wrote the fan. “Lay off stat sheets if you can’t compare the correct way.”

Meanwhile, one fan pointed out a major flaw in the comparison when it came to games played between the two players.

“Dog Brady in this has 32 less games that’s (without playoffs and a handful of years ago) TWO ENTIRE SEASONS LESS,” the fan commented.

Another X user called for a comparison of Goff and Brady during major games in the league, while also calling out Goff for his latest performance in the playoffs.

“Now compare Goff vs Brady in big games like playoffs,” wrote the fan. “Goff had 5 turnovers in his last playoff game. Choker.”

However, not all fans were as brutal in their criticism.

“So now Goff’s Rams stats matter? I’m so confused, I thought he was just a throwaway to Detroit fans!” commented the fan. “I always knew Goff had the talent, but to put him on the level of Tom is not it.”

On the other hand, some fans also came to the defense of Goff and the difference in situations that both Goff and Brady had.

“Nobody’s saying Goff is Brady. But if we’re comparing their first 10 years, compare the whole team,” wrote a fan. “Brady had 6 top-10 scoring defenses in his first decade. Goff has had 2. Goff even reached a Super Bowl with the 20th-ranked scoring defense. Context matters just as much as rings.”
