Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs made some big claims of being the best No. 2 in the league. "You can't name a No. 2 better than me," he said on his YouTube channel. However, an NFL analyst believes the Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams surely beats Diggs.

“Williams has outpaced the 32-year-old wideout in both yards and touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. While he's still a clear No. 2 to St. Brown, he's already knocking on the door of the NFL's top ten receivers,” Michael Haney of SideLion Report wrote on July 13.

After a run to the Super Bowl with the Patriots last season, Diggs was released due to legal troubles and is currently a free agent.

“When he [Diggs] eventually does sign with a team, it will quickly become clear that Williams has passed up in the hierarchy of NFL receivers,” Michael Haney of SideLion Report wrote on July 13.

There is no doubt that Diggs is still a good wide receiver. After all, he recorded 1,013 receiving yards on 85 receptions and scored four touchdowns last season.

On the other hand, Williams had 65 receptions for 1,117 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. It’s hard to argue against Haney’s point, considering Diggs was the Patriots’ WR1 last season during their run to the Super Bowl.

However, Diggs would no doubt be an elite WR2 for any team. Diggs, over his 11-year career, has racked up 11,504 yards and scored 74 touchdowns, with his best years coming with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. 

Still, age is against Diggs, and with Williams only 25 and improving each year, there is every possibility that Williams turns into one of the best wide receivers in the league in the next few years.

Meanwhile, an NFL analyst named Williams a premier breakout player to watch in 2026.

NFL Analyst believes Jameson Williams could become a star in 2026

Jameson Williams has not had an easy time since being drafted 12th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

After struggling for game time due to injuries and off-field troubles, he finally showed his potential in the 2024 season. He finished the season with 58 catches for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns.

In the 2025 season, Williams had two games with zero catches and one game with just one catch, dwindling his output from a statistical standpoint.

Still, during the Lions’ final six games of the 2025 season, Williams recorded at least five catches and 70 yards in five of the games, which has prompted Christian Booher of Sports Illustrated to believe that Williams could be the Lions’ next big star.

“The Lions have begun to trust Williams on intermediate and short routes even more throughout the past two years, and this could culminate in a massive 2026 season,” wrote Booher. “As long as he stays healthy and remains consistent, Williams is a player who could vault into the category of legitimate stars in 2026.”

With a new offensive coordinator in Drew Petzing, it will be interesting to see how Williams performs next season.
