Detroit Lions fans were hoping for an encouraging update on DB Brian Branch’s recovery after he suffered an Achilles injury last December.. However, fans were left disappointed after Dan Campbell’s comments.

Speculation continued to swirl about whether the All-Pro defensive back would be ready for the start of the 2026 season. However, head coach Dan Campbell delivered a response that immediately grabbed attention across the fanbase.

“I guess there’s always a chance,” Campbell said when asked if Branch could be ready for Week 1.“I’m just gonna go ahead and widen the window so we don’t have to talk about it anymore. Let’s say December. That way, anything before that is a bonus,” added Campbell.

While Campbell’s expectation of December sounds alarming, his comments also suggest that Detroit remains open to the possibility of Branch returning much earlier if his recovery progresses well.

Branch, since his arrival in Detroit, has emerged as one of the team’s most important defenders, capable of impacting games as a safety, nickel defender, blitzer, and run supporter.

The Lions also don’t have 2024 first-team All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph, along with Branch, which has raised questions about Detroit’s defense, especially in the safety position.

Meanwhile, fans on social media have voiced their opinion on the situation.

Fans React To Dan Campbell's Comments

 After Dan Campbell's comments, many fans went on social media to give their reactions to the situation. Many interpreted Campbell’s remarks as a signal that the organization is preparing for a lengthy process.

One fan commented, “December? Man if Brian Branch can’t go until December, just shut him down and get him right for next year.”

“He said this because he's tired of being asked about it,” said another fan talking about the constant questions about Branch.

One fan questioned how the personnel in charge of the fitness of the players had not yet been changed.

"And yet we're running it back with the same personnel in charge of player fitness and conditioning. Steel yourselves for another season of catastrophic, season-changing injuries that may completely derail our status as a contender."

One fan predicted that Branch would come back around the same time as another injured Pro-Bowler of the Lions.

"He's missing the first 6 games or so like McNeill," referencing Pro Bowl defensive tackle Alim McNeill.

Fans will still be hoping to see Branch return from his injury sooner rather than later.
