As part of the celebrations for the United States of America’s 250th birthday, President Donald Trump and UFC CEO Dana White put together the UFC Freedom 250 event on Sunday, 14 June. The third fight on the card, Sean O’Malley vs  Aiemann Zahabi, drew a reaction from the Detroit Lions’ running back, Jahmyr Gibbs.

After the one-minute break between rounds, O’Malley used this opportunity to capitalize on his best offense. Instead of waiting for the referee to officially stop the bout, O’Malley stood still, saluted, and walked off confidently. A perfect walk-off KO!

This KO moment received a hilarious reaction from Gibbs, who posted a photo of the event on his Instagram story with laughing emojis.

His reaction to this fight at UFC Freedom 250 wasn’t the first time Gibbs had reacted to UFC events. In May, the RB watched the UFC 328 from Prudential Center in Newark. He watched flyweight champion Joshua Van successfully defend his title against Tatsuro Taira.

Gibbs had posted a short clip to his Instagram story, his voice cracking during a tense moment during the bout. The clip was circulated widely for Gibbs’ genuine and unfiltered reaction with his full-body energy towards a decisive moment during the fight, per Sami Haider of Gridiron.

Haider shared that Gibbs has been vocal about his passion for combat sports in his previous interviews. He admired MMA fighters for enduring the sport’s high physical demands.

Being a professional athlete in another contact sport, Gibbs understands the discipline and grit it takes to be at the top. He now enters the 2026 season as one of the most dynamic running backs in the league.

The Lions picked him at overall 12th during the 2023 Draft. In just three years, he has earned three Pro-Bowl selections and recorded 39 rushing touchdowns.

And the Lions seem to be expecting more from the running back.

Detroit’s Offseason Moves Signal Faith in Jahmyr Gibbs

NFL insider Mike Florio shared that the Detroit Lions are fully committing to Jahmyr Gibbs ahead of the 2026 season.

The Detroit Lions have been making moves during the offseason to get them back to the playoffs after skipping them entirely in 2025. One of those moves included trading their running back, David Montgomery, to the Houston Texans. This move was seen as a sign of the Lions' commitment to Gibbs.

NFL insider Mike Florio saw this move as the best time to hand Gibbs a massive contract extension. The Lions exercised the fifth-year option in Gibbs’ contract, meaning he is with the team for another two years.

Florio added that, as Gibbs is now eligible for an extension, he should bag a deal that offers more than $20 million per year.

Gibbs brings that same appreciation for physical grit and discipline that he appreciates in the UFC fighters into the 2026 season with the Detroit Lions.
