Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker have played together on the same offensive line. Decker played left tackle, while Sewell played right tackle. 

Sewell reposted Taylor Decker’s farewell message on his Instagram story and captioned it, “Big Dawg, thank you for everything.” Sewel is going to miss his left tackle and thanks him for everything. 

The post wrote, “In the weeks since notifying the team of my return, there have been numerous discussions, many of which were a surprise to me, and we could not find a common ground. Therefore, I decided to request my release.”

The Lions drafted Decker, and he has remained with the Lions for ten seasons. Decker will return to the NFL next season, just not in a Lions uniform. 

Decker hopes his release will be clean and amicable and does not want any hiccups along the way. The post wrote, “I am opting for a clean and amicable close to what has been such a beautiful 10 years going to war as a lion.” 

Decker also thanked the Ford family and the Lions’ organization for being able to afford him for the last ten seasons. 

During his time with the Lions, Decker started 145 games, started three playoff appearances, and won two divisional titles. Decker was also named a Pro Bowler in 2024. 

Who could use the services of this veteran offensive tackle?

Decker will be assessing his options ahead of the 2026 NFL season, but some teams could use the veteran tackle's services. 

The Cleveland Browns need a new offensive line, and that rebuild can start with Taylor Decker, who has immense experience in the league and will bring leadership to the team as well. 

Another team that could use Taylor Decker would be the Houston Texans. The Texans traded their best offensive lineman to the Browns, leaving them with holes to plug at that position. 

The next franchise would be the Las Vegas Raiders. QB Geno Smith was sacked 55 times, and that is an enormous number. 

The running back Ashton Jeanty did not have much room to work with, as well. The Raiders would welcome the services of Taylor Decker to help on that plagued offensive line.
