Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes are two names synonymous with the term “elite quarterbacks” because of their stellar careers.

In a recent twist, however, NFL Analyst Scott 'The Gator' Anderson snubbed Mahomes in favour of Goff.

In a recent discussion on 97.1 The Ticket, Anderson was asked to name the current Mt.Rushmore of NFL quarterbacks. He named Buffalo Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson as the first two names.

“I came with Josh Allen. The Second one, a little bit more thought, but no, Lamar Jackson, I'm not gonna overthink this, Lamar Jackson belongs.”

Things, however, got interesting as Anderson snubbed Patrick Maholmes because of multiple injuries over the past two years.

“Patrick Mahomes is not on it all respect due to Patrick Mahomes, who in the past is absolutely probably number one with a bullet on the mountain Rushmore; he's not; he's been hurt the last couple of years and suffered a serious injury last year."

In fact, Anderson also didn’t mention Super Bowl-winning quarterback Sam Darnold but named Goff on the list. 

“Darnold has both won Super Bowls, but I'm not hitching my wagon to either one of those guys (1:06). My other two are Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.”

Goff’s appearance on the list comes as no surprise. In the 17 games he played last season, he was among the NFL’s elites with a 105.5 passer rating (3^rd overall) and a 68.0% completion rate (6^th overall).

While Patrick Mahomes’ resume needs no introduction, the three-time Super Bowl MVP has had his last couple of seasons marred by a torn ACL. As the list was the Mount Rushmore of current quarterbacks, he was left off the list.

Jared Goff could play a bigger role for the Lions this season

Jared Goff, while always remaining pivotal to the Detroit Lions, could play a larger role for them this upcoming season.

Drew Petzing, the new offensive coordinator, has showered high praise on Goff, insisting he wants him to direct the plays for the offensive line.

"He’s as impressive a quarterback as I’ve seen watching tape. Coming into the interview process and watching the tape, I think you start to really appreciate how good he really is and what level he’s been playing at these last couple of years,” Pezting said.

Goff had a standout season, managing 4,564 yards and 34 touchdowns. Detroit Lions’ offensive playcalling was not as good under John Morton, and Pezting wants to change that by giving Goff more responsibility.

“To me, a good quarterback play call relationship. He’s another coordinator and coach on staff. Because of how much time is required to play that position at a high level, and how involved, we don’t do anything without the quarterback touching the ball," said Petzing.

The Lions’ fans will hope Goff can have another great season while leading the offensive line and the team to a better finish than last year.
