Packers analyst digs into Lions fans over Terrion Arnold situation

The legal situation surrounding now former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has caused some strong reactions.

Many discussions have centered on Arnold’s future and what it means for the Lions' defense, but one Green Bay Packers analyst has shifted the focus towards the Lions fans. Following a heated exchange online about Arnold and the Lions, Packers analyst Peter Bukowski didn’t hold back.

“Lions fans settling back into mediocrity after having the briefest taste of success is leading to some amazing crash outs,” wrote Bukowski on X om June 30. “They had no idea how to act when they were winning - a foreign concept to them - and now don’t want to admit when it’s over.”

Detroit finally improved after decades of losing in 2023 and 2024, when its overall records were 12-5 and 15-2, respectively. But that success was short-lived as they went 9-8 overall last season, a repeat of 2022.

This reply was given to a fan who was not happy with Bukowski’s initial tweet about the Lions being favourites in the NFC North, after cutting Arnold while dealing with Brian Branch's injury.

“So the Lions cut Terrion Arnold, Brian Branch tore his Achilles in December and Kerby Joseph has chronic knee issues that, as recently as June, had Dan Campbell saying “I don’t know” about Joseph’s health in the future,” read Bukowski’s initial post on X. “Yet the Lions are the favorites in the NFC North. Huh?”

One Lions fan responded quite aggressively to the post mentioning the Packers’ poor finish to the season, which was what prompted Bukowski to write about the Lions fans.

“How did Packers finish the season? I forgot?” wrote the fan. “0-4 with how many blown leads? Remind me? Oh that’s right!”

The rivalry between the Lions and the Packers has grown tenfold over the past few years. Last year, they lost both games against Green Bay. While the back and forth continues between the NFC North rivals, there’s been a trade pitch that could see both teams doing a trade with each other.

Trade between the Packers and the Lions pitched to get Green Bay's starter

With the situation around Arnold forcing the Lions to have to look for a cornerback, there is an interesting situation revolving around one Green Bay Packers star. According to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, cornerback Carrington Valentine could be available for a trade before the start of the season.

“Valentine will be a free agent after the season,” wrote Huber. “Under the NFL’s proven-performance escalator, his base salary almost tripled to $3.674 million. Moving on would take that amount of money off the salary cap. Cornerback is a premium position, so the Packers could get decent value for a player who might be replaced by one of the newcomers.”

Valentine has played 49 games with 30 starts in three years and has recorded 18 pass breakups, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He had a 56.4% catch rate last season but also allowed five touchdowns, had zero interceptions and a 22.7 missed-tackle percentage.

However, his 2024 season was much better as he ended the season with four consecutive games with an intercepted pass or a forced fumble.

Do you think the Lions should trade for Valentine? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
