The Detroit Lions have one of the NFL’s most explosive offensive weapons in running back Jahmyr Gibbs. As expectations are soaring for both the Lions and Gibbs, a Detroit Lions legend dropped a warning for other NFL teams about the running back.

In a video posted today by Woodward Sports on their X account on June 16, former Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson shared his assessment of Gibbs. When asked about what fans could expect from Gibbs this season, Johnson did not hesitate.

“If Jahmyr stays healthy, man, there’s nothing he can’t do,” Johnson responded.

Johnson noted how he’s been following Gibbs from his college days and how his speed and versatility are what made him a first-round NFL pick in 2023.

“I’ve seen the kid since college at Georgia Tech, then he went to Alabama,” Johnson said. “The kid is lightning in a bottle.”

Johnson also highlighted how defenders often focus on his ability to outrun his opponents in open space but how Gibbs’ complete skill set is what makes him so difficult to defend against.

“You know he’s so smooth with it,” Johnson said. “He’ll pull away from you just like that. He’s not afraid to run in between the tackles. He can catch the ball.”

According to PFF, as a rusher, he forced 62 missed tackles while averaging 3.0 yards after contact per carry, emphasizing his ability to gain tough yards. As a receiver, he caught 77 passes on 92 targets for 616 yards and five touchdowns.

Johnson said Gibbs has been putting in work on his route running and related skills, and he believes that effort will continue to pay off. He added that Gibbs is only expected to improve from here.

According to Johnson, health will be a key factor for the Lions’ push for the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, Lions head coach Dan Campbell recently revealed Gibbs' change in role for this season.

Jahmyr Gibbs Going To Be Lions' 'Bell Cow' Says HC Dan Campbell

Campbell, during last week's press conference, revealed how Detroit plans to build much of their offense around Gibbs.

"He's going to be our bell cow now," Campbell sounded confident. "He really became more of that last year, but we're going to hang our hat on him quite a bit. We're going to do a lot of things we feel like he does well."

This move was expected once David Montgomery was traded to the Houston Texans this offseason. Last year, Gibbs did prove that he could carry a much heavier offensive load.

He finished seventh among all running backs with 1,223 rushing yards and was eighth for yards per carry at 5.0. This was despite having to share touches with Montgomery.

Now, Gibbs will be the undisputed lead back for one of the league's most potent offenses.

What do you think of Johnson's take on Gibbs? Let us know in the comments.
