After Breece Hall landed his massive new extension, one NFL analyst has talked about Jahmyr Gibbs getting what he is worth as an NFL running back. 

Turning the attention to the next in the list, NFL insider Ian Rapoport talked about the RB Jahmyr Gibbs' first contract extension after the completion of his rookie contract. 

“This does not seem like the starting point for a couple of big-time superstar running backs who are up for contract extensions and priorities for their teams this year,” Rapoport said. “Jahmyr Gibbs with the Detroit Lions is one of them.”

Recently, RBs Breece Hall (three years, around $43M) of the New York Jets and Devon Achane (four years,  around $64M) of the Miami Dolphins received their contract extensions, per Spotrac.

Their extension has sparked buzz around the Detroit Lions’ RB Jahmyr Gibbs. 

“They have done a really good job of rewarding their best players with blockbuster contracts, often making them the highest paid player at their position,” Rapoport said.  “I certainly would expect that to be the case for Jahmyr Gibbs.”

As per Spotrac, the first-round drafted Gibbs signed with the Lions on a four-year rookie contract at $17.8M, with a fifth-year option.

Rapoport considers that the Jets and Dolphins have rewarded their RBs based on their contribution and stats. 

For Hall, in the 2025 NFL season, he appeared in 16 games while covering 1,065 yards he scored four touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference. 

Considering Achane’s production, he appeared in 16 games and rushed for 1,350 yards and recorded eight touchdowns.

In a similar way, Rapoport is expecting that the Lions would also reward Gibbs. Per PFR, Gibbs played in 17 games and ran for 1,223 yards while scoring 13 TDs for the Lions (the fourth-most in the league)

Like any other RB, Gibbs has maintained his production, and based on his contribution, Rapoport is expecting that the Lions will also consider Gibbs' extension.

In fact, Rapoport isn't the only one expecting a bright future for Gibbs. Another analyst recently gave a ballpark figure of what this extension could look like.

Back in February, Lions GM Brad Holmes made it clear that they would do everything possible to keep Jahmyr Gibbs in the Lions for a long time.

“He’s a part of our nucleus, he’s a core piece on our football team,” Holmes said. “We want to keep him around for a long time, so we’re already in alignment on that…”

Drafted first overall by the Lions in 2023, Gibbs instantly broke into the team. In his rookie season, he produced 945 rush yards with 10 touchdowns. This number went well beyond the 1,000-yard mark in the next two years.

Adding to this, analyst John Maakaron of the Detroit Lions on SI predicted the probable contract extension.

“My contract is a three-year extension worth $58.5 million,” Maakaron said. “You make Jahmyr Gibbs the second-highest paid, $19.5 million a season.”

Maakaron has predicted a $58.5M contract extension for Gibbs. He did the calculations based on the contracts of Christian McCaffrey ($19M) and Saquon Barkley ($20.5M).

With Jahmyr Gibbs continuing to produce at an elite level, the Lions now look headed toward another massive payday in the future.
