On March 29, 2026, head coach Dan Campbell talked about the Lions' performance in the 2026 offseason as “rebirth”.

"We've been going. It's been fun. Brad (Holmes) and I, we've been back in the bunker just going at it. It's been fun, it really has. It's kind of a little bit of a rebirth," he told reporters Monday.

While addressing the NFL community, he further emphasized the changes made in the roster, as it is hard for them to say goodbye to the veterans who have given their all for the organization. 

Campbell added that bringing in younger players to boost production is simply the nature of the NFL.

However, the Lions have already lost some key players such as David Montgomery, Kalif Raymond, and Taylor Decker this offseason.

For a team seen as a contender still in their championship window, moving on from experienced contributors can feel like a step back. That’s where the disconnect begins.

While the front office focuses on long-term balance, fans are looking at the present window and expecting immediate upgrades.

The reaction to Dan Campbell’s comments came in fast, and fans didn’t hold back.

“He’s out of ideas on how to fix this trajectory, so he wants to go back in time,” one fan wrote.

Many questioned whether the approach signals progress or hesitation.

“That offseason was more afterbirth than rebirth,” another fan mockingly said.

It was clear that fans were unimpressed with how things had unfolded so far. Some reactions leaned into sarcasm.

“What’s much better than if he had called it an afterbirth,” one fan added.

Many reactions piled onto the criticism rather than holding back. And then came the bigger concern from the fanbase.

“Too bad their window is now closed,” one fan simply said.

It’s worth noting the offseason isn’t finished yet.  The draft remains, and that’s where teams often reshape narratives.

While the reactions show frustration, there’s still time for Detroit to respond and settle those concerns before the season begins.
