NFL Fans Bash Cam Skattebo As Old Calvin Johnson Comments Resurface

Cam Skattebo has found himself in a spot courtesy of his football knowledge, or lack of it, rather. The running back came under heavy fire after his football knowledge was put to the test.

Recently, Skattebo was last seen practicing to get back in the game after his season-ending ankle injury last year. As shared by reporter Art Stapleton, he was seen doing practice drills with Jaxson Dart.

The video shared by the St Brown's podcast on X showed him unable to recognize many of the old legends in the sport. One of the players on the list was Calvin Johnson. Widely known as Megatron, one of the most familiar faces of football.

"I can't tell you his name. I thought he had a little bit more chocolate to him. I thought he was darker," said Skattebo defensively.

Skattebo was shown a picture of the Detroit legend and struggled to tell their names on the podcast hosted in June 2025. Finally, after a hint from the host, he identified Johnson, but the damage was already done.

Johnson's career saw him reach unattainable heights. In nine NFL seasons (all for the Detroit Lions), he recorded 731 receptions, 11,619 yards, and 83 touchdowns. He earned six consecutive Pro Bowls towards the end of his career. Naturally, not knowing him in person wasn't well-received by the fans.

Over social media, the fans were not too pleased about Skattebo's lack of knowledge and came down hard on the RB.

Fans Criticize Skattebo On His Lack Of Knowledge

Cam Skattebo's comment was not taken kindly by the fans. As soon as the video resurfaced, fans were quick to throw shade at Skattebo.

"That’s the world we live in, this generation of players never watched the goats who came before them. That s*** is sad, I guess they didn’t have fathers or uncles who were into sports who watched games with them as kids," said a fan.

Johnson wasn't the only player Skattebo missed. Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre and Saints standout Marques Colston, Seattle’s Kam Chancellor, were also on the list. So was Darren Sproles.

Sproles is still remembered as one of the most dynamic players. Across his 14 seasons (2005–2019), he recorded 3,552 rushing yards and 4,840 receiving yards.

"The more he talks, the more he shows the world he's a complete and utter a**-hat!" said another fan

For now, Skattebo's return is projected to return in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. Now we just have to wait and see if that does happen or if his return is delayed.
