Taylor Decker's time in Detroit appears to be over. Following a reported fallout with the Lions, an analyst has predicted a perfect revenge scenario: joining an NFC North rival. Here's why the move could make sense for both sides.
According to Sports Illustrated, the Chicago Bears have emerged as a potential destination for Taylor Decker. The move stands out not just because of the fit, but because of the history tied to the Detroit Lions and their divisional rivals.
If there is one thing new head coach Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears would relish, it is getting one over the Detroit Lions. With uncertainty at left tackle and injuries already thinning depth, Decker presents a proven, if slightly rebound-dependent, solution.
With another former Lions player, Kalif Raymond, already choosing to follow Johnson (former offensive coordinator at Detroit) to Chicago, this potential move only worsens the realm of possibilities for Detroit.
The Chicago Bears are looking for an edge positioned opposite Montez Sweat, as Dayo Odeyingbo is still recovering from a torn Achilles.
Last year, Decker played for 894 offensive snaps and generated an impressive production with a PFF grade of 67.9.

During the 2026 NFL free agency, he was released from the Lions upon his request due to the “steep” pay cut the Lions were imposing on him.
His departure from the Lions was not pretty. With ten years of togetherness with the organization, he was expecting more.
Now he might get a chance to play under the familiar leadership of the Bears' head coach, Ben Johnson.
Taylor Decker Faces Competition From Other Options as the Bears Weigh Choices
If the Chicago Bears are seriously evaluating Taylor Decker, he’s not the only name available to them in free agency and the 2026 Draft.
According to the mock drafts, the Bears' front office has other options to consider as the No. 25 overall pick. Each prospect brings a different profile to the table.
First among the two is 6 ft 6 inch Caleb Lomu (PFF 68.4) from Utah Utes, known for his elite athleticism and technical proficiency in pass protection.
The other one is Blake Miller of Clemson Tigers (PFF 76.8), the 6 ft 6 in tall tackle, who is famous for being a "plug-and-play" prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Through free agency, 31-year-old Jermaine Eluemunor (PFF 63.8), a free agent previously with the New York Giants, could be a better fit for the Bears.
He is a year younger than Decker and has played 1,088 snaps, much higher than Decker.
