The perception around the Detroit Lions has changed drastically over the years as they have transformed into one of the best teams in the NFL due to their offense. A huge part of that is Jared Goff. Yet, an NFL analyst questioned his ability, which did not sit well with another analyst.

Despite reaching the conference championship game in 2023 and clinching the first seed in 2024, Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright had a different take on Goff. He had remarked that Goff was an “amazing citizen," while Caleb Williams is the "super hero." This take has triggered a strong reaction from an analyst during a discussion on Woodward Sports.

“Find me another 'civilian'”' who can lead the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns," he said on the May 19 episode of the podcast.  

The Detroit Lions quarterback over the last four seasons has led the league in passing yards (18,206) and touchdowns (130) over that span.

Goff was traded from the Los Angeles Rams after five seasons with the franchise. He led them to the Super Bowl game in 2018 and was a Pro-Bowler in 2017 and 2018. However, he was traded in 2020 for Matthew Stafford.

In Detroit, Goff continued chasing success. When it comes to the quarterback with the most wins in the last three seasons, Goff is tied with Josh Allen and Sam Darnold.

Despite a disappointing season for the Lions, Goff still performed exceptionally. He threw for 4564 yards, only trailing MVP Mathew Stafford, and had a completion rate of 68%. He had also recorded 34 touchdowns, the second-best mark in the league.

However, this is not the only time Goff’s ability has been questioned recently.

Analyst Compares Jared Goff to Caleb Williams

The rivalry between the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears is growing year after year. The Bears have improved under former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and star quarterback Caleb Williams. After last season's performance, analyst Chris Broussard had an interesting take.

“I know what I am going to get with Goff. It’ll be good. But Caleb, I am not sure what I am going to get, but the ceiling, the potential?” Broussard said on the First Things First podcast. “You are talking about a Volvo, nothing against Volvos, that’s Goff. And you’re talking about a Porsche (as Williams). Give me Caleb. I don’t even think this is a question.”

The Lions missed the playoffs, and the Bears lost in overtime in the Divisional Round. However, when comparing the two, the statistics favour Goff in a direct comparison.

The Lions quarterback had a better completion rate at 68% compared to 58.1%, more passing yards with 4564 compared to 3942, and more touchdowns with 34, while Williams had 27 passing and 3 rushing touchdowns.
