Despite leading the Detroit Lions' resurgence in recent seasons, QB Jared Goff received a sobering assessment from CBS Sports analyst Bryan DeArdo, who suggested the quarterback may have already reached the peak of his career unless Detroit makes another deep playoff run.

The recent NFL quarterback ranking for 2026 was just announced by CBS Sports. The analyst Bryan DeArdo suggested that Goff's career may have already peaked unless Detroit makes a significant playoff push, as he ranked him among the upper-tier QBs.

"Goff appears to have reached his career arc unless the Lions make another deep playoff run," wrote DeArdo. "A former No. 1 overall pick, Goff has enjoyed a highly productive career that includes a Super Bowl appearance with the Rams, five Pro Bowl selections, and leading Detroit to its first playoff wins since 1991."

On CBS Sports, DeArdo ranked Goff among the NFL's better starters. Goff was ranked in tier 2 alongside Jalen Hurts, Sam Darnold, Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, Drake Maye, and Trevor Lawrence.

DeArdo still painted a bleak picture of Goff's long-term outlook, arguing that another deep playoff run is likely needed to elevate his legacy beyond where it stands today.

However, another NFC Championship appearance or a Super Bowl victory could upgrade his resume, including him among the NFL's elite QBs. Failing to achieve these might make fans believe that he has reached his peak in the NFL.

Maybe a Lombardi Trophy is the missing piece needed to mark his place. While analysts remain divided over Goff's long-term legacy, a Vikings insider believes Detroit's biggest obstacle may be tied to the QB.

DeArdo isn't the only analyst questioning whether Goff can take Detroit to the next level.

With Detroit's roster and coaching changes, Francisco Jaureguiberry of Albat believes questions surrounding Goff remain one of the team's biggest obstacles entering the 2026 season.

"The Detroit Lions enter the 2026 NFL season with high expectations," wrote Jaureguiberry, "but growing concerns about Jared Goff's performance under pressure and the team's evolving roster have raised questions about whether Detroit can remain among the NFC's elite."

Some issues could keep Detroit from making it to the NFC's elite. Jaureguiberry believes there is a drop in Goff's passer rating when he is pushed out of a clean pocket, and he doesn't play well under intense pressure.

Whether Goff has truly reached the ceiling DeArdo described may ultimately depend on how he performs under pressure and whether Detroit can translate its regular-season success into another deep postseason run.
