NFL analyst calls Jared Goff "MVP of the entire NFL" in bold claim

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has become part of the NFL MVP conversation. A new opinion from an NFL analyst, Sam ‘Stick’ Day, has added to the debate about where he stands among the league's top quarterbacks.
On the Monday episode of the Woodward Sports Network, Sam Day discussed his bold claim. He argued that Detroit's outlook and another strong season could put Goff at the front of the award race.
"He was a top-five voting candidate for MVP two years ago. He's consistently, I mean, if you put up all the numbers over the past four years in an aggregate,” Day said on the Monday episode. “He is the MVP of the entire NFL because nobody's touching him on any stat line when it comes to the quarterback position."

Goff has recorded more than 4,500 yards and at least 30 touchdowns in each of the past three seasons while leading one of the NFL's top-five scoring offenses for three straight years.
"All he's [Goff's] got to do is put his stamp on this season, not have those like Houston Texan type games like he did a couple years ago," Day said on WoodwardSports. "If the team's winning and following behind him, and we have that momentum."
Day's point goes back to Goff's 2024 game against the Houston Texans, when he recorded a career-high five interceptions. Although the Lions won 26-23, games like that can reduce a quarterback's chances of winning the MVP.
After several seasons, Goff has helped keep the Lions among the NFC's top teams while earning a place in ESPN's latest quarterback survey.

The MVP discussion surrounding Goff gained more support after ESPN's annual survey of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts ranked him as the No. 9 quarterback in the league and the highest-rated quarterback in the NFC North.
In the July 13 ESPN survey, Jeremy Fowler reported that Goff appeared on nearly 60% of ballots.
The guy wins," an NFL coordinator said regarding Goff, per ESPN. "He's going to find a completion if not under pressure. Mature pocket passer with a plus arm who can layer the ball at all levels."
The ranking came after a two-year record by Goff, who threw for 9,193 yards and 71 touchdowns.
ESPN also noted that only Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, and Peyton Manning have more 4,500-yard passing seasons than Goff, who has five.
League recognition and bold predictions now point toward the same question as the 2026 season approaches.
