The NFL community is currently rallying behind one of its most recognizable draft analysts after a devastating car accident left him facing life-altering injuries.

The car accident nearly claimed the life of ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller. Miller revealed this week that he was involved in a serious accident in Missouri and was airlifted to a local hospital for emergency treatment. He also expressed gratitude towards the first responders as well as medical personnel that helped him, via his personal X account.

“Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital,” wrote Miller. “I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this.”

According to KOAM-TV in Pittsburg, Kansas, Miller was driving a 2023 Ford Bronco eastbound on Missouri Highway 96 when he crossed the center line and collided with a semi-truck. A 28-year-old Springfield, Missouri, man was driving the westbound 2024 International semi and escaped the incident without injuries.

Miller further explained the extent of his injuries and the life-saving surgery that he had done due to the accident.

“As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs,” wrote Miller. “I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time.”

Miller also expressed his gratitude towards the people who showed him love during this difficult time and was already looking forward to coming back.

“Thank you for the overwhelming support, prayers and kind message - they have meant so much to me and my family during this time,” Miller added. “I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class.”

Miller has been an important part of ESPN’s coverage of the NFL over the last few years and has a vast past with football.

Matt Miller’s history in football

A native of Joplin, Missouri, Miller is an alumnus of Missouri Southern State University, according to ESPN Press Room. Miller first worked as a coach and recruiting coordinator for the CFL’s Joplin Crusaders from 2006 to 2008. He also worked as the Director of Scouting for New Era Scouting from 2006 to 2010.

Soon after, Miller joined Bleacher Report as their lead NFL Draft writer from 2010 to 2021 and was the most-read author in the history of their website. He would then join ESPN in 2021 as an NFL Draft contributor and made his on-air debut during Day Three of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Miller is a familiar face across ESPN's coverage, making appearances on NFL Live, SportsCenter, Get Up!, NFL Draft and Mock Draft specials, in addition to ESPN+ exclusives.
