Ty Simpson's draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams flipped the plans for both the Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Ravens during the 2026 NFL Draft. While this remained a suspicion, an NFL insider's X post just confirmed that.

Ari Meirov's video surfaced on X that confirmed the claims made by GM Brad Holmes. The claims were regarding drafting Blake Miller into the Lions after the Rams drafted Simpson.

“If you watch the video, the Ravens talked to Detroit after the Ty Simpson pick, and that’s when the Lions said they were no longer interested,” as per Pride of Detroit on X. “That lines up with what Brad Holmes said—once Simpson was off the board, they were confident Blake Miller would fall to them.”

The offer was made by the Motor City team, which included the 17th and 118th, and a 2027 third-round draft pick for the No. 14th pick of the Ravens, per NFL analyst Ari Meirov.

"We talked to teams up-way up-and we just talked about (it) and tried to see if we can be at peace with what the capital is that you'd have to expend,” Holmes said. "...Right after LA took the quarterback, I felt pretty good that we might be able to just get Blake."

But once Simpson was off the draft board, the Lions pulled out of the deal and went for Miller to draft a developmental right tackle prospect to fill the void that was created by the shift of Penei Sewell to left tackle.

Now the expectations are around Miller to be a starter at ‌right tackle as a replacement for Sewell.

Analysts Believe Brad Holmes' Choice Can Become a Starter for the Lions

From the beginning, the Lions were behind drafting the Clemson product.

Now, he is being eyed as the starter on the right tackle with the assumption that head coach Dan Campbell will keep his word on shifting Sewell to‌ left tackle, per Christian Booher of the Detroit Lions on SI.

“The Lions will give him every opportunity to win that job in a position battle against Larry Borom, and if he has a strong camp,” Booher wrote. “He'll be out there in Week 1.”

Transitioning from a college prospect to an established tackle in the Lions, the front office is impressed by his work ethic and culture, per Tim Twentyman of the Detroit Lions.

The Clemson star started his collegiate career in 2022 and appeared in 54 games while recording two tackles and a forced fumble.

Now all eyes are on him since he will be a part of Dan Campbell’s duo-pair philosophy by complementing Penei Sewell.
