Ahead of OTAs, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford caught attention for the way he has been helping rookie QB Ty Simpson during his first offseason.

During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Stafford made a strong statement about Simpson. The Rams picked Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Many wondered how Stafford would react to the arrival of a potential successor.

"I'm trying to share as much knowledge as I can with Ty Simpson... I was a big fan of him when he was playing at Alabama, and he's a talented kid," said Stafford on Pat McAfee Show.

Stafford publicly appreciated the rookie and showed willingness to help him grow under the guidance of Rams HC Sean McVay.

"I'm going to do everything I can to get this team ready to play, to win, but at the same time share some of the knowledge I've gained throughout my career. He's been a sponge, looking to get better," Stafford added.

It was surprising when the Rams drafted Simpson despite Stafford coming off an MVP-caliber season. However, the franchise has made it clear that Stafford will be their QB1 in the upcoming season.

HC McVay and GM Les Snead see Simpson as a long-term investment rather than as an immediate replacement. Meanwhile, Simpson has fully welcomed the opportunity to learn from one of the league's most respected veterans.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano, Simpson said having veterans like WR Davante Adams and Matthew Stafford around has been a "big advantage" for him.

Watching the veterans work daily provides Simpson with a front-row seat to elite NFL preparation.

Ty Simpson is already showing the mindset the Los Angeles Rams hoped for when they selected him 13th overall. While many questioned the pick, the rookie QB made it clear he is not focused on outside opinions as he prepares for his first NFL season.

Speaking at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere with SI's Gilberto Manzano, Simpson dismissed the criticism regarding his draft position.

"I really don't care, to be honest with you," Simpson said. "Everybody can have an opinion, but it's my job to take care of my business. The Rams took me with the 13th overall pick, so now it's my job to be the best player I can be."

The rookie QB also emphasized that winning remains his top priority. For now, Simpson is expected to spend the 2026 season learning under Stafford's mentorship.

With Stafford mentoring him and McVay guiding his development, Simpson has landed in one of the league's best situations for a young quarterback.
