Major Update on AJ Brown As Lions’ Divisional Rivals Make Big Trade Move

Growing concerns for the Philadelphia Eagles' three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, AJ Brown. His days in Philly seem to be dwindling after the franchise makes another move to solidify its stance.
The Detroit Lions' divisional rivals, the Green Bay Packers, have sent wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks to the Eagles. The Packers, in return, get a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
As per ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Wicks will sign a one-year, $12.5 million extension with the Eagles.
If there is a potential deal to be made in which the Eagles ship out AJ Brown, it would likely take place after June 1, per Schefter. That way, the Eagles avoid the $43.51 million dead cap hit and don't lose $20.12 million in cap space.
A post-June 1 trade spreads that dead money over two years: $16.35 million in 2026 and $27.16 million in 2027. Also, they save $7.04 million in cap space this year.
The Super Bowl champ has eclipsed 1000-plus yards in six of his seven NFL seasons. Throughout his career, Brown has racked up 8,029 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns.
As for Dontayvion Wicks, the wide receiver is not a replacement for Brown. Wicks had the least production in the 2025 season with 332 yards and only two touchdowns. The wide receiver throughout his career has 1,328 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Could the New England Patriots Be a Potential Landing Spot for Brown?
The New England Patriots could be lining up an offer to land the talented wide receiver. And the need has deepened as the team released wide receiver and four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs early March.
The move is cited as a purely financial one, given Diggs' additional $6 million would have become fully guaranteed on March 13.
“There’s been a lot of speculation - first and a second, first and a third. The Patriots, my understanding, is around second-round draft pick compensation,” as per Greg Bedard of Boston Sports Journal.
The Eagles will prefer a first-round and a second-round pick for Brown, but the Patriots will not match that, given where Brown is in his career.
