Throughout Jared Goff’s journey to being an NFL star, he has had a lot of supporters and doubters. However, before even NFL executives or coaches predicted him to become a top guy in the NFL, one person got their very early prediction about Goff correct.

Watching one of his high school games at Marin Catholic in 2011, one out of a group of Catholic sisters was convinced she was witnessing a future NFL star. Sister Miriam Holzman opened up about the sister who guessed right about Goff, back when Goff was just a junior.

“I remember her just watching Jared Goff, and he was the starting quarterback, and she leaned over, and she said, 'He’s going all the way to the NFL',” recalled Sister Holzman on the July 23 episode of the Openlight Media podcast. “The first thing she said after that, it wasn’t about his stats. It was, he stays calm and cool. He thinks like the coach.”

Sister Holzman, while hosting a podcast episode on the Openlight Media YouTube channel, was at Marin Catholic High School to teach when they saw Goff play. It is fair to say that the sister’s prediction for Goff has been correct.

Goff was very successful in high school with a record of 49-4, 7,914 passing yards, and 93 touchdowns. He would then commit to the California Golden Bears, where in three years he accumulated 12,200 passing yards, 96 touchdowns, and just 30 interceptions.

He would then be selected first overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft, five years from when the sister predicted Goff to make it to the NFL. 

Despite troubles during the latter years of his time with the Rams, he has since become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. Last season, he racked up 4,564 yards and 34 touchdowns, which is the third-highest in his Lions career.

Moving into the 2026 season, one NFL analyst thinks Goff is the best in his division.

Jared Goff named the best quarterback in the NFC North

Goff has often been overlooked in terms of the best quarterbacks in the league. However, despite the NFC North having young stars like Jordan Love and Caleb Williams, as well as two-time Pro Bowler Kyler Murray, Goff was still ranked as the best quarterback in the division by SideLion’s Caden Handwork.

“With a banged-up offensive line and Dan Campbell calling the offensive plays for the majority of the season, Goff still managed to put together one of his best seasons,” wrote Handwork. “The five-time Pro Bowler was a steady presence despite the turmoil surrounding him.”

Handwork also mentioned how things can be different for both Goff and the Lions going into next season due to the changes made during the offseason.

“Now with an improved offensive line and a new offensive coordinator in Drew Petzing, Goff and the Lions look to take advantage of a last-place schedule and become kings of the NFC North again.”

With three consecutive seasons of throwing for over 4,500 yards and 30 touchdowns, with this improved team, we can expect Goff to do the same, if not better.
