Playing on Thanksgiving has been one of the NFL’s longest-standing traditions, with some of the league’s most historic franchises taking part since the 1920s and 1930s. This year, for Thanksgiving, Detroit will host division rival Chicago at Ford Field, which is already gaining attention.
Since Dan Campbell took over, the Detroit Lions have turned into a must-watch team. The two teams won a game each when they faced each other twice last season. Therefore, prices for the matchup have skyrocketed.
As reported by Sporting News, the get-in cost for the game is $385. Lower-level seating prices have climbed drastically higher as well and cost $525. The Lions had previously hiked the prices on an average of 30% in 2024, but reportedly elected to freeze the prices for the 2026 campaign.
According to Vivid Seats, the Lions have an average ticket price of $372.18 for the 2026 season. The ticket resale site has the highest-priced home game set at Thanksgiving. Their road game in Buffalo has already surpassed $600 in terms of minimum ticket price.

Their three divisional home games are definitely going to get a very big crowd. This comes despite Detroit having had a disappointing season. Having a record of 9-8, the Lions unfortunately missed the playoffs.
However, having played the Conference Finals in 2023 and clinched the NFC's top seed in 2024, expectations are still high for the Lions. With stars such as Amon-Ra St.Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Aidan Hutchinson, and Jared Goff running the show at quarterback, the Lions fans still have a reason to turn up in the stadium.
The Detroit Lions will be playing eight games at Ford Field in the 2026 NFL season. They will be having one international game against the New England Patriots in Munich, Germany.
Why Are The Prices So High For Detroit Games?
Detroit’s resurgence under Campbell has transformed Ford Field into one of football’s loudest and most expensive environments. With high expectations for the season, fans are more eager than ever.
The Lions have consistently ranked amongst the highest-paid matches in recent seasons. Their matchup at the Bills is currently the most expensive, with a get-in rate of $656. Median tickets cost around $1,230 and an average price of $1,932, according to Yahoo.
The defending NFC North champion Chicago Bears finished 11-6 last season, though the Detroit Lions beat them twice, highlighted by a 52-21 rout at Ford Field in Week 2.
Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions has become a Thanksgiving tradition, as the teams have faced each other 20 times on the holiday, the second-most such meetings in NFL history. They will now meet for the sixth time in 12 years on Thanksgiving, with the Bears leading the recent series 3-2.
