However, Detroit entered the campaign with a notable question at cornerback after parting ways with a starting-caliber player. That could lead the Lions to explore the trade market for help at the position.

One name to monitor is the Steelers' cornerback Joey Porter Jr., whose situation has become complicated in Pittsburgh. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport weighed in on the situation during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show:

“He [Joey Porter Jr.] is a very good player with a contract situation that's a mess. They’re obviously at an impasse; it’s been in a not great place for a while.”

Rapoport noted that Pittsburgh could move Porter Jr. if another team meets its asking price:

“Pittsburgh has been open to trading him; the interest based on the price has not been there yet, but definitely one to keep tracking on who he ends up playing for.”

Rapoport identified the Lions and Chiefs as teams worth watching as the situation develops.

The Lions released Terrion Arnold earlier this year following legal troubles, ending the former first-round pick's time in Detroit. He later signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

His absence could leave Detroit looking for help at the position. Arnold's departure removes another option from a cornerback room that could benefit from additional depth.

Rapoport directly connected the Lions to the Porter Jr. situation while discussing potential landing spots:

“The Lions lost Terrion Arnold; that would be another one I would keep an eye on.”
