The Detroit Lions have spent the last several seasons aggressively rebuilding the roster to eventually win the Super Bowl. They have done so through both the draft and free agency.
However, a recent trade proposal has unexpectedly placed former first-round pick Terrion Arnold in the spotlight.
Heading into the 2026 season, Detroit's cornerback room is completely stacked. This is exactly why PFSN writer Jacob Infante has suggested the Lions consider trading him.
Infante named one player from every team who realistically became a trade candidate before Week 1. For the Lions, he suggested Arnold who is only entering his third season.
“After showing some encouraging flashes as a rookie, Terrion Arnold regressed in 2025,” wrote Infante. He also pointed towards Arnold’s availability concerns.

He added, “The Detroit Lions have a log-jammed cornerback room with D.J. Reed and Rock Ya-Sin as well as fifth-round rookie Keith Abney II. If enough of those guys perform well enough, Arnold could net the Lions some good draft capital.”
According to Mike Payton of AtoZ Sports, however, the most that the Lions could get for Arnold would be a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Infante also noted that Arnold’s PFSN CB Impact Score had dropped from 76.2 to 72.4 last year. The cornerback also recorded just one interception across his first 24 NFL games with Detroit.
However, Detroit insiders have emphasized that Arnold’s overall play looks better than what raw numbers suggest. Arnold allowed a passer rating of just 52.7 after Week 1 while beginning to settle into Detroit’s defensive system.
Payton also referenced how, during the games against the Bengals and Commanders, Arnold was pretty good.
So what could Arnold’s future in the NFL look like?
The Lions Are Unlikely To Move Terrion Arnold… For Now
For Detroit, it seems like patience is the most logical path to take with Arnold. He had a rookie season filled with penalties and a second year plagued by injuries. On the surface, he might seem like a prime trade candidate.
However, the Lions had selected him because of his athletic traits, physical coverage style, and long-term upside. Trading him, especially for a middle-round pick, would be selling low on a player who is still adjusting to the league. It’s simply not enough for the Lions to give up on him.
Arnold will be entering the 2026 season with immense pressure, especially after his inconsistent second season. Detroit wants to compete for a Super Bowl in 2026, which means the cornerback will have to face extra scrutiny this season.
Arnold is still a talented player with a lot of potential. If he can find a way to stay healthy and continue progressing, these trade discussions could seem to be a thing of the past.
