Lions TE Sends A Message For Jared Goff Haters Days After New Signing

Jared Goff is one of the best QBs in the NFL right now; there's no debating that.

But the Detroit Lions' QB has also faced multiple criticisms over the years. Though the new signing, TE Tyler Conklin, took a stand for him.

In his latest interview with Crunch Time Sports, the tight end talked about how good Goff is and how people hate him unnecessarily. He said:

"I do think Jared Goff is one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League. I've always defended him also behind the scenes, just because he doesn't, he has way too much hate. I felt the same way about Justin Herbert. But Jared Goff, you know, I mean, I think the numbers speak for itself."

The Lions have signed Conklin to a 1 year, $1,300,000 contract. But even he knows how influential Goff has been for the Lions.

He has racked up pretty good numbers in his decade-long NFL career. The 5x Pro-Bowler has thrown for 39,622 yards and 256 touchdowns. While many count Patrick Mahomes among the GOATS, Goff has the most passing yards since 2017 (38,533), the year Mahomes debuted.

He sits with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to win 13 games in a season for multiple franchises. Plus, he is one of six quarterbacks in NFL history with 100 touchdown passes for multiple franchises.

The Lions QB is the first player in NFL history to post a 72.0% completion percentage and a 105.0 passer rating in six straight games. Goff recorded the highest completion percentage (82.8%) and passer rating (140.1) in any six-game span in NFL history in 2024 (50 attempts minimum).

Yet he receives hate, but like Conklin said, "That's kind of just a problem with social media nowadays. But, you know, everybody kind of has their opinion, and whether it's, you know, a good one or not, whatever, we're all allowed to have an opinion."

Well, Conklin wasn't the only one defending the Lions' star QB.

Lions' OC Has Also Addressed Jared Goff Critics

A major criticism of Jared Goff has been that he is a pocket passer and does not run enough.

He has had only 596 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns in his career. New Lions' OC, Drew Petzing, has spoken about it, and he was in Goff's support.

"Yes, he's a pocket passer, but he's made some great plays in the keeper game, on the move. There's just so many things that I think he does at a really high level. I think get taken for granted at times that really make a massive difference in how an offense operates and the success of a team. And I think he's done that at such a high level for such a long time," he said.

Even without rushing much, Jared Goff led the Lions to back-to-back NFC North championships and playoffs in 2023 and 2024. He owns the third-longest streak in NFL history for consecutive passes without an interception thrown (383) (set over the 2022-23 seasons).
