The Detroit Lions just finished their 2026 draft, and star player Amon-Ra St. Brown is very happy with the results. However, the overall team's decision in the draft to skip the safety position does not sit well with some.
The Lions' Sun God says GM Brad Holmes did a great job fixing the roster. He is especially excited about the new offensive lineman, Blake Miller.
On his podcast, St. Brown praised Miller as he said, “I feel like Blake (Miller) is exactly what we needed—a tackle that has that mean streak in him. I saw some of the highlights—putting dudes on their back, finishing guys,” he said. “I feel like him and Penei (Sewell) are going to be a sick a** combo,” he said.
Not everyone agrees with St. Brown, though. Many fans and experts think the Lions made a mistake by picking Miller. They wanted the team to choose a player with more star potential, like Monroe Freeling, or a fast wide receiver to help the offense.
Critics argue Detroit prioritized stability over explosive playmaking potential. However, the Lions are firm on their decision because 9.9 RAS combined with his 3,778 snaps, (Clemson record), he as ready as ever for a tackle position.
While other players like Max Iheanachor or Caleb Lomu might be flashier, the Lions' front office wanted to bring in someone consistent who could help the team win right away.
A Look At Blake Miller’s Career Background
Detroit believes that Miller will bring a change to their team’s stats. Miller established a reputation for durability at Clemson by missing only one practice in four years. The only reason he sat out that one practice was because he had to have surgery on a broken bone in his wrist.
Miller has also become a much better blocker every year. In 2022, he let defenders get near the quarterback 25 times. By 2023, that number dropped to 22, and in 2024, it went down to 18.
In his final season in 2025, he only gave up 14 pressures and two sacks allowed. This highlight that he is consistent and keeps the pocket calm for the quarterback.
However, Miller being solid raises concerns for OT Larry Borom. The six year veteran who was originally drafted by Chicago Bears in 2021 (No. 151 overall pick). This March he signed a one-year contract with the Lions.
Now, the true depth chart and decision about OT will be available during Mid June with mandatory minicamps.
