Lions Suggested to Add Depth for Jared Goff With Draft Trade

With the NFL Draft set to take place from April 23rd to 25th, NFL teams are looking for ways to make their roster stronger. And in tandem with that, the Detroit Lions want to build around their quarterback, Jared Goff. So that the team is set for a focused run throughout the 2026 season.

Under head coach Dan Campbell, the Lions have one of the most solid offenses led by Goff and including Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. But according to Vito Chirco of the Detroit Lions on SI, they should consider building their offense further to have more depth and to benefit the team in case of injuries.

Vito Chirco pointed to TE Evan Engram as a possible trade option. He’s coming off a quieter 2025 season and carries a $14 million cap hit, which puts his situation in focus. Chirco noted Engram’s athleticism and proven production, adding that he could strengthen the TE2 spot for the Detroit Lions.

For this, the team is relying on their general manager, Brad Holmes, to make some draft-day deals and bring in a veteran who can be of advantage to Goff. But there are two sides in the game, offense and defense. And the latter's options are also there.

Lions’ Defensive Options Ahead Of The Draft

Chirco also pointed out two more impact players. The first player who can line opposite Goff’s offense is Maxx Crosby, the defensive end of the Las Vegas Raiders. The five-time Pro Bowler had a career-high 28 tackles for loss last season. He also started all 15 games with 73 total tackles, including 45 solo.

The second prospect would be Kristian Fulton, the cornerback at the Kansas City Chiefs. His debut season with the KCC in 2025 was modest due to injuries. However, his healthy 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers was promising.

The Detroit Lions’ quarterback, Jared Goff, also looks all pumped up for the upcoming season. At a recent Youth Football Camp, he said, “I’m excited about the new guys coming in... It’ll be great and good competition.”

The Detroit Lions head into the draft with a strong offensive line already in place, giving them a solid base to build on. Quarterback Jared Goff has also spoken positively about the group, reflecting growing confidence within the team ahead of the new season.
