The Detroit Lions appear set to take a close look at one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects available this summer, during the supplemental draft, where teams blind-bid with future draft picks.

The last time a supplemental draft took place was in 2019. And according to Underdog NFL, all 32 NFL teams are expected to attend the July 10 pro day this time, per ESPN reporter Peter Thamel.

The development is especially important for the Detroit Lions, amid ongoing conversations surrounding its quarterback position and its depth.

In Brendan Sorsby’s case, he was banned from participating in the college football season this year. The Texas Tech quarterback was ruled ineligible by the NCAA after he admitted to making thousands of b***, including on the Indiana team that he was a part of.

Despite a local judge granting an injunction overturning the NCAA ruling, Sorsby was eventually forced to withdraw the lawsuit amid protests by the NCAA and the Big 12. The quarterback has now decided to appear for the supplemental draft instead.

While speaking to the media about Sorsby on Wednesday, head coach Dan Campbell remarked that they would consider all possibilities.

“All I can tell you is that we look at everything,” Campbell said. “Brad looks at everything and so nothing is off the docket. Our eyes are open. Doesn’t mean we will make a move or we won’t.”

Sorsby was expected to be a first-rounder in the 2027 draft after a strong season with Texas Tech. He threw for 2,800 yards with a completion rate of 61.6% and 27 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

The Lions possess a consistent quarterback starter in Jared Goff. However, there are doubts about the long-term future of the position. Many have also questioned whether the Lions could look at a young player to develop while being mentored by Goff and backing him up for a few seasons.

Meanwhile, Campbell shared his excitement for next season.

Campbell Feels "Really Good" About Next Season

Despite a poor season with a record of 9-8 in 2025 while also missing the playoffs, Lions head coach Dan Campbell is looking forward to next season and is very optimistic after what he saw during OTAs.

“I’m excited. I feel really good about where we are at right now, knowing what we’re getting into six weeks from now,” Campbell told reporters on Wednesday.

The head coach added that the team has "the right type of players" that they could depend on. He was also satisfied with the competition building around positional needs, calling them "some of the best we’ve [Lions] had in different areas."

Besides the changes to the offensive line and getting Drew Petzing as the new offensive coordinator, the Lions also have one of the easiest schedules of any NFL team.
