The Detroit Lions have continued to put points on the board under offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. However, strong scoring numbers have not stopped expectations from rising in Detroit. With Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jameson Williams available, this offense has the talent to become even more dangerous.
That is precisely why Lions legend Herman Moore believes Petzing can afford to be more aggressive. Moore sees an offense with enough playmakers to attack defenses in different ways, but he wants the coaching staff to unlock more of that potential.
He particularly believes Detroit needs to establish a more credible deep passing game. Opponents have not always respected that threat, allowing them to play shallow and limit the space available underneath.
Moore made his message to Petzing clear, stressing that Detroit has the personnel to compete at the highest level.
“This isn't a condemnation of him or anything like that, as much as it is like you can take the kid gloves off. This team is ready to win. They have playmakers. Let them go make plays.”
Moore wants Petzing to trust his players and incorporate more deep shots, motion, and creative looks. Jameson Williams has shown he can get behind safeties, but defenses need to fear that possibility consistently.
Jared Goff and the Lions Must Unlock Another Gear
Goff has already helped Detroit produce explosive performances, including a 45-point showing against Arizona. Yet the Lions cannot rely on scoring bursts alone if they want to meet their championship expectations.
Connecting more consistently downfield could force defenses to retreat, creating additional room for Gibbs and St. Brown to operate. For Petzing, the challenge is turning Detroit's offensive potential into a more complete and unpredictable attack.
