After a long road back from injury, a Detroit Lions linebacker has shared a health update following a 12-month ACL recovery.

After re-signing with the Detroit Lions, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez shared a health update regarding his ACL injury and rehabilitation. While speaking at the Meijer Performance Center, he said, β€œIt's a big opportunity.”

β€œIt's just one of those things, I'm just going to come in and have the same mentality I had when I first got here. It's always about competition and put my best foot forward and see where it goes," Malcolm Rodriguez said.

While filling in for injured Alex Anzalone, Malcolm Rodriguez suffered a torn ACL on November 28, 2024, in his right knee. The match was against the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day.

He underwent a torn ACL repair surgery followed by a lengthy 12-month rehabilitation process. Post his surgery, he suffered from a stiff knee, later informing the fans about his complete recovery, and he was eyeing the offseason to just work.

Rodriguez joined the Detroit Lions as a sixth-round draft pick in 2022. The 5 ft 11 in tall athlete, weighing 230 lbs, has played 50 games in four seasons. He has recorded 164 total tackles, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and successfully defended 3 passes.

How Malcolm Rodriguez's Health Update Reflects His Role in the Lions Roster

Malcolm Rodriguez brings a defined role to the Detroit Lions' defense as a run-first linebacker built on instincts and technique. He diagnoses blocking schemes quickly, attacks gaps with timing, and uses leverage to win at the point of contact.

His wrestling background shows how he stays low and balanced, allowing him to finish tackles even against bigger linemen.

Rodriguez’s impact was evident early in his career. As a rookie, he earned PFWA All-Rookie honors after producing consistent backfield disruption, including multiple tackles for loss and over 80 total tackles.

Malcolm quickly proved he could contribute at a high level despite being a late-round pick. Under Kelvin Sheppard, his understanding of the system has grown, allowing him to handle rotational and starting duties.

Now fully healthy, Rodriguez said, β€œIt’ll be nice to see me out there doing my thing,” pointing to the role he can reclaim in the defense.
