The Detroit Lions opened their season with a thrilling 31-30 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints. However, Dan Campbell's team now faces a much tougher test in Week 2 when they take on Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

Allen presents a completely different challenge, but Campbell isn't only focused on what his defense must do. Instead, the Lions head coach believes the offense has some important areas to clean up before the blockbuster matchup.

Speaking on 97.1 The Ticket, Campbell pointed to issues with fundamentals and technique. He admitted that some mistakes were disappointing, particularly after the team had worked on those details throughout training camp.

“It's really more the, man, the fundamentals, the technique, the things you do every day individually. You know, that's what I wanted to see out of that offensive group.”

Campbell specifically mentioned problems with players getting their heads down and having their feet out of position. While he believes those issues can be fixed, he knows they cannot continue against Buffalo.

The Lions have little room for error against the Bills. If they want to start the season 2-0, Campbell will need his offense to be sharper than it was against New Orleans.

The Lions Could Add Defensive Depth Before Facing the Bills

The Lions have already shown interest in adding to their defense. They recently made an inquiry about Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who has reportedly grown frustrated with Pittsburgh.

Porter could give Detroit another talented option in the secondary. The Lions already have Super Bowl aspirations, so adding quality depth could make sense as they prepare for a demanding season.

However, making the move before Buffalo is a long shot. The Lions and Bills meet in just a few days, leaving very little time to complete a trade and get Porter integrated into the defense.

Even if nothing happens before Week 2, Detroit's reported interest is worth watching. The front office has already shown that it isn't afraid to explore ways to strengthen a roster that believes it can compete for a championship.
