The Detroit Lions used their first-round pick on Blake Miller, and he has a simple plan. He wants to learn, follow the system, and do his job the right way from the start.

During a 1-on-1 interview, Miller was asked by his mother, Karen Miller, about his message for the Lions fans, and the rookie explained why he's excited to play in Detroit.

“Over the moon to play in Detroit,” Miller said Tuesday. “Coach Campbell here has built an amazing culture…be a finisher, be a guy who has grit, be a guy who's physical. I want a team after they get done playing us to walk off the field and know that they just played the Detroit Lions.”

That mindset matches what head coach Dan Campbell expects from his players. Detroit has built its identity on grit and toughness, and Miller seems ready to follow that path.

Before entering the league, Miller proved his value at Clemson. He started 54 straight games and played 3,778 offensive snaps.

Now, he comes in with the same mindset Campbell and company are focusing on bringing back this season.

"You're just looking for very gritty football players," general manager Brad Holmes said. "You have to have a level of grit to you, and that was a huge emphasis for both free agency and the draft process."

Miller is already in the building and getting started with the team. There is a real belief he can add help on the line and adjust at this level. The focus now moves to what Dan Campbell saw in him during the draft process.

Dan Campbell Shares Strong First Reaction to Blake Miller Pick

The Lions coaching staff did not hesitate in backing their first-round pick. Dan Campbell made it clear that Blake Miller fits what the team wants on the offensive line.

“He's played a lot of football. He's solid, he's steady, and he can do it all,” Campbell said. “We feel like this is a guy who can come in and compete, and help us with the O-Line.”

The first call between Campbell and Miller during draft night also showed the team’s confidence. The message from the coach was direct and full of belief.

“We’re fired up, man,” Campbell told Miller. “We’re going to put this pick in. Man, we love the tape, we love what you’re about. You’re durable, you’re steady. You just come in and compete, man."

Detroit sees Miller as someone who can compete with Larry Borom for the starting right tackle role.

The Lions are still shaping their roster, but this move adds strength to the offense. If Miller delivers on his words, he could become an important piece as Detroit pushes to return to the playoffs.
