Aidan Hutchinson has established himself as one of the NFL's best defensive ends. However, his career hit a major roadblock in 2024.

The Detroit Lions star suffered a fractured tibia and fibula during the season. The devastating injury ended his campaign and left Hutchinson dealing with an emotional battle, too.

After the injury, Hutchinson admitted that he began spiraling. He found himself feeling sorry for himself as everything seemed to pile up.

“I was grieving a little bit, which is okay. I was frustrated. I was feeling sorry for myself. Everything just kept stacking up.”

However, Hutchinson refused to remain stuck in that mindset. He realized that his biggest battle was becoming mental and decided to fight back.

“In that moment… I was like, ‘I cannot let my mind beat me.’ My mind was getting so overwhelmed by being a victim and the grief and everything. And I literally had to flip right there. I was like, F— that. You’re not going to beat me. I kind of made it into a competition in my own mind.”

That mentality helped Hutchinson return stronger. Despite the Lions' disappointing season in 2025, he was one of their brightest spots. Hutchinson played all 17 games and showed no lingering effects from the injury.

The Lions have come painfully close to reaching the Super Bowl before. Yet, they have repeatedly stumbled when it mattered most.

This time, the entire roster wants to finish the job. Hutchinson appears particularly determined to make that happen.

Recently, he went golfing with Jared Goff. During their round, Hutchinson brought up the team's past struggles. His message was simple: this season needs to be different.

The Lions have had teams capable of winning it all. Now, Hutchinson believes it's time they finally do it. And after everything he has overcome, he certainly won't be lacking motivation.
