Lions Add Ex-Dallas Star To Jared Goff’s Options

The Lions are continuing to add veteran depth around their franchise quarterback, Jared Goff.
Entering the 2026 season, Detroit has provided Jared Goff with another veteran target by signing wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. on May 20.
Last season, Wilson played with the Miami Dolphins, with five receptions for 44 yards and zero touchdowns in 10 games. His most productive campaign came in 2021, when he had 45 catches for 602 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Apart from that, the veteran WR has had stints with the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints.
With a receiving room featuring Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, the Lions have one of the youngest receiver groups in the league. Outside of Tom Kennedy, Wilson would be the only receiver older than the age of 27.
Wilson was a sixth-round draft pick by the Cowboys in 2018 from Boise State. His best season in 2021 came when he played as an important secondary target behind CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper.
However, he left the Cowboys and signed a three-year contract worth $22 million with the Dolphins. A low-risk addition with upside is what the move is for the Lions as they head into a season with high expectations.
With a head coach like Dan Campbell and a quarterback like Jared Goff, could we see part of his Dallas form in the 2026 campaign?
How Does This Move Affect The Team?
Cedrick Wilson has always been buried behind elite receiver depth wherever he went in his career. And even the Lions don’t have a lack of playmakers with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Isaac TeSlaa and Dominic Lovett.
"Wilson, who turns 31 in November, will compete for a back-end roster spot with Tom Kennedy, Dominic Lovett, Jackson Meeks and Malik Cunningham," Dave Birkett of Detroit Free Press reported May 20.
He was signed by the Dolphins after Tyreek Hill’s horrific injury last season. However, with the depth that the Lions possess, Cedrick may not see the field much this season as well.
The Lions will be hoping to reach their first-ever Super Bowl this season, and this move helps them more than it hurts them. It will be interesting to see how Wilson performs in an offensive scheme like Detroit’s.
