“Left Him Alone:" Dan Campbell Forced Into Tough Call on Lions Star Amid Retirement Talk
The Detroit Lions can breathe a sigh of relief. Veteran left tackle Taylor Decker has officially ended retirement speculation by announcing his return for an 11th season. The news resolves a major offseason question for coach Dan Campbell.
Speaking to reporters, Campbell said, “I’ve left him alone. You know we had a conversation right when the season ended about just him taking his time to figure out what he really feels like, what he wants to do, what he can do. So I’ve left him alone there. I don’t want to say we haven’t had a conversation but I’m leaving that between us.”
After dealing with a tough shoulder injury in 2025 that saw him miss three games and face his worst season yet, Decker will look to make things right. And the best move for the Lions should be to keep him while finding a backup for the position. Last year, after Frank Ragnow left, the Lions were forced to find a replacement on the fly. With Decker staying, we could see Campbell steadily rebuilding the offensive line.

“As much as I love Deck, he’s got some things that are going to need some management. We’re one way or another going to need somebody that can play over there. They can help us if we need them in a crunch or we need them as a starter. So, that’s important,” Campbell said.
It seems like Campbell wants to avoid another situation like last offseason, where Frank Ragnow announced his retirement after the draft was over, and Lions were in a tough pickle.
Decker is looking forward to coming back for an 11th season
Decker is one of the longest tenured players for the Detroit Lions in the current squad. He was given Pro Bowl honors in 2024. He was selected by the Lions in the 2016 NFL Draft and, since then, has played 140 games spanning 10 seasons.
News of his retirement had been going around after a shoulder injury last postseason.
However, in a much-anticipated Instagram post, Taylor Decker has announced that he will indeed be returning to the Lions for his 11th season.
This announcement bodes well and came as relief to fans, knowing that Decker will be there to boost the Lions’ offense in the 2026 season.
