Latest Report Claims Detroit Lions 3 Moves Away From NFL's Best O-Line

Fans were quick to call out the Detroit Lions' management about their free agency moves. However, one analyst declared that they can solve their O-line troubles with three simple moves. And it doesn't involve signing a free agent.

After Taylor Decker left the team, Mike Payton of the A to Z Sports, suggested:

  1. Draft Penn State guard Vega Ioane with the 17th pick
  2. Pick your right tackle in the second round
  3. Move Penei Sewell to left tackle

Ioane has been incredible in his final collegiate year. Of his 614 snaps, Iane played 565 snaps at LG. And throughout the year, he didn't allow a single hit or a sack in the year. The only problem here is that the Lions have the 17th pick in the first round. If any other team gets in their way, the plan breaks down.

The second step is to draft a right tackle in round 2. He mentions that the Lions can go for options like Iowa’s Jennings Dunker, Max Iheanachor from Arizona, and Oregon’s Isaiah World. This move is based on the flexibility of the Lions.

The final step would be Penei Sewell to the left tackle. With his already proven experience, Sewell can be the key piece to handle one of the most difficult positions in the O-line. It could be a massive gamble considering Sewell has only played on the left on three snaps last season.

But can this solve all of Detroit's problems?

It Gives Them a Solid Headstart

All fans need to do is look at Jared Goff's numbers. Last season, he had 4564 passing yards and 34 touchdowns to end the season. In fact, he ranked second in the league for both stats.

This came despite taking 38 sacks in the season. It was the 15th most sacks in the league. A better O-line could give Goff the protection he needs to lead the team deep into the playoffs again. And while the team also needs an edge rusher, Payton had an answer for the team prioritizing the O-line.

"Arguably, it’s more important for the Lions to secure that than it is to secure an extra pass rusher. Yes, that is important. But if you can’t run this offense, it doesn’t matter how good your defense is. Just ask the Browns. Myles Garrett had a record-setting season, and had help, and that team still only won five games."
