Lamar Jackson has just spoiled a major Ravens trade. The Baltimore QB dropped a cryptic post on X ahead of reports that the team was acquiring a star defensive end coveted by the Lions.

Lamar Jackson posted a smiling face emoji in the caption and a Denzel Washington “BOOM” meme from the movie “Training Day,” where he played corrupt LAPD detective Alonzo Harris. Lamar’s post came just before reports emerged that the Ravens were trading for star defensive end Maxx Crosby. 

The 28-year-old defensive end joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019 after being drafted in the 4th round (106th overall) out of Eastern Michigan. Since entering the league, Crosby has become the centerpiece of the Raiders’ defense. 

Through his career, Maxx Crosby has played 110 games, recording over 439 total tackles, 278 tackles for loss (TKL), 69.5 sacks, 29 passes defended (PDEF), and 9 forced fumbles (FF). Crosby has also returned one fumble for a touchdown (YDS gained on return). 

Known for his relentless motor and high snap count, he consistently ranks among league leaders in quarterback pressures and defensive snaps. His play has earned him multiple Pro Bowl selections (2021, 2023) and First-Team All-Pro honors in 2023. 

Crosby also signed a four-year, $94 million contract extension with the Raiders in 2022, showing the franchise views him as a long-term defensive cornerstone.

Why Couldn't the Lions Get Maxx Crosby?

The Lions reported on SI that GM Holmes was “willing to break the bank” for Maxx Crosby. However, a situation with cornerback Terrion Arnold made the team rethink their plans.

“According to many in league circles, Detroit general manager Brad Holmes was more than willing to be aggressive to meet the trade demands of the Las Vegas Raiders, which included parting ways with two first-round draft picks.”

Reports said Lions GM Brad Holmes was ready to offer multiple first-round picks and pair him with Aidan Hutchinson on the defensive line. The plan changed after Arnold became linked to a legal investigation in Florida related to a potential involvement in a felony.

Arnold has not been arrested or charged, but the uncertainty affects roster planning. League sources said the situation “will likely put a pause on Detroit’s willingness to part ways with early round picks.”
