The Jared Goff versus Jordan Love debate has taken another turn as one NFC North analyst pointed to a specific area where the Detroit Lions quarterback trails behind Love.

As part of a debate on AtoZ Sports, Packers reporter Wendell Ferreira and Lions reporter Mike Payton made their cases for why their team’s quarterback was better heading into the 2026 season. According to Ferreira, Love trumps Goff when it comes to avoiding sacks, and he pointed it out as Goff’s biggest flaw.

“The most underappreciated element of Love’s game is his ability to avoid sacks under pressure,” wrote Ferreira. “He ranked 4th in pressure-to-sack ratio at 10.9%. Goff was 21st. When a pocket collapses, Love finds a way to either extend the play or at least avoid the negative outcome.”

In the article on A to Z Sports, Ferreira further added that while Love did not always produce explosive plays under pressure, he was able to prevent drives from ending with costly sacks.

“He consistently prevents the worst-case scenario,” wrote Ferreira. “That skill is difficult to teach and even harder to sustain at a high level across a full season.”

However, Payton argued the take by pointing to Goff’s production when it came to facing pressure. 

“From 2023 to 2025, Goff has been pressured 700 times compared to Love’s 550 times,” wrote Payton. “Under pressure during that same span, Love completed 46.1% of his passes with 7 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and 16 turnover-worthy plays. Goff? He completed 52.7% with 9 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, and 18 turnover-worthy plays.

He also argued that Love has better stats when it came to big-time throws under pressure, more so due to the Packers’ system compared to the Lions’ system.

Meanwhile, one wild stat proved that Goff belongs among the NFL’s elite play-callers.

A wild stat about Goff proves his place amongst the NFL’s elite

Despite Goff finishing last season with 4,564 passing yards, the second most in the NFL last season, and having a passer rating of 105.5, the third-best in the league, Goff’s place among the best play-callers in the league is still doubted.

However, Lions insider Al Karsten on X revealed a stat that proved that Goff had every right to be in the conversation for one of the top quarterbacks.

“List of quarterbacks to register at least 30 passing touchdowns, 3,500 passing yards, and a 60% completion percentage in each of the last three seasons:  • Jared Goff [End of list],” wrote Karsten. “Dak Prescott is the only other quarterback to accomplish the feat in even two of the last three seasons. Goff has even exceeded 4,500 passing yards, a 67% completion percentage, and 30 passing touchdowns in each of the last three seasons.”

Karsten went one step further and claimed that Goff was the most consistent and underrated quarterback in football.
