The Detroit Lions celebrated a 45-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5, but the postgame spotlight turned to a difficult moment away from the field.
The team's quarterback Jared Goff became emotional during a FOX Sports interview with Allison Williams when he addressed longtime Lions radio announcer Dan Miller, whose wife had recently passed away:
“We're thinking about Dan. Yeah, sorry. We're thinking about you, Dan. Love you, man [pauses to regain his composure]."
Goff's emotional reaction reflected the personal impact of Miller's loss. He then explained why the longtime broadcaster means so much to the franchise:
“He's just an important piece of the culture here. He really is. His voice is Lions football. He means a lot to us. He's a part of our family. I talk to him weekly. I know he's in our hearts right now and all of our prayers.”
Goff struggled to compose himself as he spoke, underling the bond that extends beyond the broadcast booth. His message made clear that Miller remains part of the Lions family.
Lions rally to beat Cardinals in Week 5 as Dan Miller mourns his loss
Dan Miller has served as Detroit's radio play-by-play announcer since 2005 and has become a familiar voice for Lions fans. He missed Sunday's broadcast following his wife's death.
After the win, head coach Dan Campbell dedicated a game ball to Miller and his family during his postgame press conference, acknowledging their difficult loss.
Detroit's victory moved the Lions to 3-2, while the team's public tributes showed its support for a valued member of the organization.
