Jared Goff Set To Face Micah Parsons As Packers DE Drops Major Injury Update

The Detroit Lions have just received some clarity regarding one of their most anticipated divisional matchups of the 2026 season. This comes after Green Bay Packers star pass rusher Micah Parsons has just given an update on his injury.
"Packers star Micah Parsons makes clear that he'll begin the 2026 season on the PUP list, offering a target of mid-October until he's on the field. With a long career ahead, no shortcuts," reported NFL Network analyst Ian Rapoport on June 2.
Parsons is five months into his rehab after tearing his ACL on December 29 while playing against the Denver Broncos. Following the nine-month strict rule for rehab, as reported by ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Parsons has also undergone a meniscus procedure. So, he is expected to miss the beginning of the regular season.
Goff and the Lions will be facing the Packers at Ford Field on October 25. This means that Parsons’ projected return is scheduled just before the Lions face the Packers. While there is no guarantee, the possibility is certainly on the table.
Parsons told reporters during OTAs on June 2 that his goal is always to make the playoffs.
"The goal isn't for me to go out there and re-hurt myself trying to force myself to get back the first few games," he said. "The goal has always been playoffs.”
For Detroit, the update adds another layer of excitement and intrigue to the divisional rivalry. If Parsons plays how he last played against the Lions, Detroit might have cause to worry.
October Presents a Tough Test for Goff and the Lions
Detroit has one of the most explosive offensive units in the league. However, if last season is anything to go by, the Lions could be in trouble if they have to face Parsons in October.
When the Packers and the Lions met for the second time in Week 12 of the 2025 season, Parsons had 2.5 sacks, four quarterback hits, and three tackles for loss. His performance helped the Packers beat the Lions.
Changes have been made to the Lions' offensive line, such as Penei Sewell being moved to the left and the Lions drafting offensive tackle Blake Miller 17th overall since then. So, it will be interesting to see how the new offensive line could match up against a pass rusher like Parsons.
